AGAT MANGO FESTIVAL

AGAT is well known for the abundance of Mango trees that thrive along the village. All one has to do is drive south to the Village of Agat to see along the streets the abundance of Mango Trees.

This is the 6th year of the Agat Mango Festival and once again, we celebrate at the "Agat Sagan Bisita".  Sagan Bisita is the gathering place and a centerpiece for community activities. Agat Sagan Bisita is located along the Agat Bay next to the Mayors Office, before the former Fire Station and behind the Agat Post Office.

Agat Mango Festival's long standing theme is centered on the mango and the family.  This year, we hope you will peel (feel) the mango. Guam has a variety of mango and you'll see them. There are varieties to satisfy your curiosity. As a matter of fact, you'll have a chance to see the competition between mango growers as they showcase the uniqueness in several categories. One of the category that often brings awe is the biggest mango. Another category is the most beautiful. So, if you have a unique mango, enter it in this year's competition.

This year, the Mango Festival is on June 9-10, 2012 at the Agat Sagan Bisita.See map for location and direction(coming soon).

To usher in the Festival, come early, about 5:00 a.m. in the morning and take an amazing scenic jog or walk  in the village of Agat. This includes a 2K run/walk in addition to the 5k run/walk. Be sure to pre-register or register early on race day Saturday, the9th. The actual start time is 6:00 a.m. so consider preregistering early at the Agat Mayor's Office or at Hornet Store. Whether your a serious runner looking to best your time or aim to spend time with family or friends for a morning walk, this event is for you.

Perhaps you are interested in learning more about the Mango, then this is the place to be as well. Talk with Mango enthusiast share their knowledge about the fruit. Pamphlets about the mango can also be picked up while supplies last.

If taste is more to your liking, then you'll enjoy a variety of tasting opportunities. Have you eaten unripe mango? If you haven't, then you'll want to come just to taste it. Try Mango with bagu-ong or mango with salt and local peppers and mango with a variety of spices mixed together for a unique flavor. There are various pickled mango available for you to try. If a sweet taste is to your preference, then you'll find it here too. My favorite is the mango smoothie demonstration. Come early, before the crowd starts to form. If you are interested in using the Mango as part of your ingredient for cooking, then you must see the dessert contest and Jam tasting contest.
